John is the Partner of our Building and Construction Law workgroup at wilson/ryan/grose Lawyers.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degree and is a local in the Townsville legal profession, graduating from James Cook University and QUT.

John is the Company Secretary for NQ Dry Tropics, Museum of Underwater Art Limited, a Trustee of the Scartwater Education Trust and the Chair of Basketball Australia. He is also a registered adjudicator under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act.

Practising in all areas of Building and Construction, John advises and represents his clients’ interests including:

Front-End Services 

  • Drafting of tender documentation, tender assessments and risk analysis, including for all contract types and project delivery methods
  • Drafting project specific or amended Australian Standard contracts for all projects
  • Advising on all aspects of probity and governance including drafting probity plans, probity and tender assessment reports

Contract Administration/Back End Services

  • Assisting with monitoring and administration of contracts including preparing and responding to all claims under head contracts and subcontracts
  • All aspects of Building Industry Fairness Act including expert advice on validity of payment claims, drafting payment schedules, adjudication applications and adjudication responses. Providing advice on prospects of successfully overturning adjudication decisions
  • Advising, lodging and responding to Subcontractors Charges claims under the Building Industry Fairness Act
  • All aspects of dispute resolution including mediation and arbitration
