Discounted Stamp Duty: Are You Eligible?
The 2008/2009 State budget revised the transfer duty rate structure. Currently a concession is available to those buying a residence if they will occupy the residence as their principal place of residence. The duty on the purchase of a principal place of residence is calculated by applying a rate of 1% to the first $350,000.00 of the value of the residence. A more generous concession on transfer duty is currently available to those buying their first principal place of residence. Those buying their first principal place of residence will not pay transfer duty on the first $500,000.00 of the value of the residence.

Jumping Through Hoops: Pre-Action Procedures Of The Family Court
Most people may not be aware that before commencing proceedings in the Family Court, there is an obligation upon both parties and their legal representatives to undertake certain steps. These steps are set out in family law legislation and are referred to as ‘pre-action procedures’. The ‘pre-action procedures’ have been put in place by family law legislation to encourage people to avoid commencing proceedings in the court by making a genuine attempt to resolve issues by means of negotiation, mediation etc. The positive outcomes for not commencing proceedings with the court are amongst other things, a saving of legal costs and the avoidance of the stressful nature of, and slow process of court proceedings.
